Cells on the Ceiling Project

For the past month, I was teaching my students (in my grade 8 science class) about the cell, it's organelles, the functions, etc. As a finally to the unit, we are doing a project: Cells on a Ceiling. I got the idea from the Cells on Ceiling by Kathryn S. Hopkins. Basically, the class is divided up into groups, each group assigned a particular organelle of the cell. Here is the basic procedure, and the detailed project outline is attached:

The students must individually research the organelle in detail, then come together to share their findings. After this, they must decide how to make a model of the organelle so that it fits in a plastic sheet (size of entire classroom) hanging from the ceiling. Also, as a group the students have to make an original presentation about the organelle.

I really liked to do this project with the students (and I thinkg they enjoyed it also). It's kind of a different approach to the typical: "Make a Model of the Cell" project.
