The numbers are warped in Alberta - U of Calgary has a program whereby undergrads take a two-year "MT" (Masters of Teaching)which automatically places new grads higher on the pay grid than those with a combined BA/BEd from U of A or U of L. The MT is NOT a masters program, it is an after-degree, and U of C's program is still essentially a BA/BEd program, however, you are forced to take 6 years of classes if you wish to graduate as a teacher. So, those of us with BA/BEd combined degrees are actually at a disadvantage on the pay scale since we are assessed lower. It's becoming a larger issue here in Alberta. A degree is a degree whether you call it an MT or a BEd. If I was at the top of the grid, with my experience and an MT, my salary would be $81 000.
